What’s On in Wrexham: Bonfire Night, Two Home Games and Remembrance
The clocks go back this Sunday, which means darker teatimes, the first proper whiff of bonfire smoke and, at the Racecourse, two home games in four days. Here's what's on in Wrexham and just over the border between now and Remembrance Sunday.
Clocks back and the Poppy Appeal launch, Sunday 25 October
The clocks go back an hour at 2am on Sunday 25 October. That's an extra hour in bed. Unless you've got young kids, in which case it's an extra hour of them bouncing on you at 5am.
If you're up anyway, the Poppy Appeal launches in town that morning. It starts at 9am at the Guildhall, with a parade to the War Memorial at Bodhyfryd for a short wreath-laying service, and everyone's back at the Guildhall for around 9.45am. The Mayor, Cllr Jeremy Kent, will be there.
It's short, it's free and you'll still be home before the roast goes in.
Bonfire Night near Wrexham: where to watch the fireworks
Wrexham Council put out its advice this week, and it's the same message as every year: skip the back-garden bonfire and go to an organised display. Fair enough. Someone else lights it, someone else clears up, and nobody's dog spends the night under the bed because next door got carried away.
Closest to home, Penyllan Farm at Marchwiel is advertising its Wrexham Bonfire and Fireworks Display for 2026. It's a big one locally, with plenty of parking, fairground amusements and food stalls. The dates, times and prices go up on the Penyllan bonfire Facebook page rather than the website, so check there before you set off.
Fancy a trip to Chester? The Lord Mayor's Spooktacular Fireworks is on the Roodee at Chester Racecourse on Saturday 31 October. Doors open at 5pm, there's a junior display at 6.45pm and the main display goes up at 7.30pm. General admission is £15 a head and children aged four and under go free.
A word of warning on Chester. There's no parking at the racecourse itself, and roads around it close from 3pm. Park in town or get the train into Chester and walk down.
Low-noise fireworks and the late-night cut-off
Wrexham Council's Safe Places team has run a silent disco with low-noise fireworks at Brymbo Sports and Social Complex for the last couple of years, both times in mid-November. Nothing's been announced for 2026 yet, but it's worth keeping an eye on the council's news page if you've got little ones or a nervous pet.
And if you are doing your own, you can't set fireworks off after 11pm. On Bonfire Night itself, Thursday 5 November, that's stretched to midnight.
Middlesbrough and Wolves at the Racecourse
Wrexham are on the road at Sheffield United on Saturday 31 October, then it's back to the Racecourse for a proper double-header.
Middlesbrough come to town on Wednesday 4 November with a 7.45pm kick-off. A midweek game under the lights in November is one of the great joys of following this club. Cold hands, a hot pie and the place at full volume.
Three days later, Wolves visit on Saturday 7 November at 3pm. We finished seventh in the Championship last season, so these are exactly the sort of games we'll need to win if the top six is going to happen this time.
TV picks can still move kick-off times, so check the club's website before you book anything around them. If you can't get a ticket, we'll have the build-up on the Breakfast Show on the Wednesday and again on Friday morning before Wolves.
Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day in Wrexham
The Annual Service of Remembrance is on Sunday 8 November at 10.55am at the War Memorial at Bodhyfryd. The council's words are "everyone is invited and welcome to attend", and the town always turns out well for it. Get there early if you want to be near the front.
Armistice Day is Wednesday 11 November, marked on Queens Square. At 11am the air raid siren will sound across the city centre. If you're out shopping or at work in town, that's your two minutes. Stop what you're doing and join in.
Where are you watching the fireworks?
Penyllan? Chester? Your mate's back garden with a box from the supermarket and a lot of confidence? I want to hear about it.
Text MARCHER followed by your message to 88440, or comment on our Facebook page, and I'll read the best ones out on the Breakfast Show, weekdays from 7am. You can listen online, on the app or on DAB across Wrexham, Chester and Liverpool.
